When in Amsterdam, eat with the locals. Having visited Amsterdam many times I can only recommend one place for your romantic evening meal: Cafe Bern. Located on the edge of the red light district, and from the outside looking like a dirty bar you would never enter.

Great place for dining out. Beautiful restaurant with a great ambiance, here you will not miss out on anything. You get to have a candlelight dinner, delicious 3 course menu that changes on a daily basis, accompanied with a cheese platter.
The service is also great; the waiters listen to your wishes, like for example, I am not a big fan of fish, so they always come up with a meat dish that will satisfy me.
I am always coming back there.
