Finally there is a flavour of East Berlin in Amsterdam! The formal headquarters of one of the Dutch foremost newspapers now houses a myriad of cultural entrepeneurs and a laid back bar on the seventh floor.
Hi there! In Amsterdam, I liked the Supper Club a lot, and the boats sailing from Rokin at Spui on evening cruises with wine, cheese and bread at a reasonable price. They are sailing for two hours on the channels. I also liked the cafe De Waag, nice setting! And the Anne Frank house gave a big impression, good to be reminded about what happened, considering the easy times we live in.
Swanky dim-lit venue near the Dam square is home to good club evenings. Install yourself at the large bar or in the comfortable leather sofas surrounding the small dance floor in the back.
Tucked away in a quiet street behind the Rokin, you find one of the best kept secrets of Amsterdam’s music industry.
Not for anyone with a fear of heights. The new, sleek upscale lounge on the 23rd floor of the Okura hotel is as glamorous as its stunning views of the city.
After a sweeping renovation, Bar Americain has become the perfect location to sample award winning cocktails in a modern yet warm interior.
Unparalleled acoustics reign supreme in Amsterdam’s classical music temple. Besides top orchestras, also jazz and pop-artists seem to have found the way to its stage.
Unpretentious-cool eatery serves different Italian specials daily. Salute the professional Italian chef in the semi-open kitchen in the back.
A welcome addition to Amsterdam´s evolving cocktail scene. Located downstairs famous Dutch chef Herman den Blijker’s similarly named restaurant, this cosy, though über-smart cocktail bar can perfectly quench the thirst of even the truest cocktail aficionado.
Podium, cinema, restaurant and club. This multi-faceted cultural powerhouse in the eastern part of town is the latest creation of the minds behind Kriterion a bar and cinema uniquely run by students. Great projects like these show the potential this neighbourhood has for the future.

One of the best new places for cocktails in Berlin, Victoria Bar, www.victoriabar.de. Awarded with interior design awards in its opening year already. Victoria bar is at the Potsdammerstrasse. Reviews can be found here.
At the KHL (Canteen of the Hollandsche Lijn), located in the Oosterdokkade, where the ships of the Hollandsche Lijn used to dock. No nonsense food, great taste, good prices, relaxed atmosphere and one of the best french fries in town. Being the old canteen for sailors, the lingering residual smell of cigarettes is a strong presence. On Friday and Saturday night the podium at the back of the restaurant features surprisingly good new artists and bands.
- At Amsterdam Plage (Amstedam's city beach on a pier head) during the summer.
- On the terrace of the MuziekGebouw.
- On the roof of the Post CS building which houses the Stedelijk Museum and Restaurant 11
All round one of the best bars in Amsterdam. Good looking crowd, good looking bar staff and you know what, the foods not bad either. Noordermarkt 5 (T: +31 (0)20 626 2462)
'Where's the Bullldog Cafe?' is a frequent question on the Leidseplein. Head around the corner and discover three more bars providing welcome relief, and live DJs on Thursdays and Fridays.
Since legendary Roxy shut down, Amsterdam has lacked a great club. Enter Jimmy Woo. Black-lacquered walls, Japanese temple lamps and antique Chinese opium beds. Great lighting, great drinks. Quite simply, the best club in town, its a must.
Contemporary restaurant / bar / club, general hive of activity for fashionable and creative types. Serves East meets West style cuisine, and plays house at volumes that'll make your prosecco quiver!!
